The Healing Power of Doing Less
Go live with me to understand how we do too much to avoid feeling grief, sadness, and loneliness
Hello Beloved Friends
I have to tell you about this sauce
2 heaping cups of strawberries (I used a mason jar to measure)
Equal parts strawberries to sugar.
I added like 2 tspns of cardamom powder.
Cook on medium to low heat stirring regularly for 20 minutes. I set a timer!
This is delcious sugary syrup is helping me resist paying $7 for a matcha latte with strawberry puree (although no shame in the latte game.)
Sometimes crisis masks avoidance
crisis is a great way to prevent vulnerability. When we are distracted by our life falling apart, we conveniently don’t have time to process difficult emotions like grief.
Sometimes, when we take a step back we can see that we have created our own problems. Like me, feeling lost in the sauce, while at the same time being my own boss and creating my own work schedule.
Or, when I was constantly struggling with a messy room, I slowly realized that my consumerism was the issue. I bought more objects than I had energy for, creating bank account stress and not having enough room for lots of unneeded things.
Not all crises are a function of avoidance.
We live in a culture of crisis. Our work environments and phones are configured to keep us distracted and busy. We are expected to remember multiple passwords, be accessible at all times, and to be more productive than ever.
Simultaneously, our societal safety nets have been eviscerated and medical care and food are extremely expensive.
All of us are vulnerable to losing income, access to basic needs, huge debt , and/or houselessness.
This is part of why I created the care plan creation guide, because life is filled with the unknown. We all face crisis at one point or another. Having a care plan can help us weather hard times, and thats also why I recommend care planning pro actively!
If you are struggling with oppressive debt, food insecurity, housing insecurity, or loss of income, it is not your fault. It is not evidence of a lack of skill, capability, or worth. It is just reflective of the cruelty and oppression present in our current society. I hope you are able to turn outward, ask for help, and receive support.
But sometimes, we truly create our own problems, and the solution is clear.
we have to do less!!
If we have spent a life time running, sitting still and doing less can feel scary. It can feel dangerous.
We assume rest is intuitive, but it is a skill
it takes practice, commitment and intention.
This world will run us ragged if we let it. The oppressive powers that be want us to dysregulated and crisis.
We have to conciously choose and prioritize rest in this oppressive culture. This is why Audre Lorde’s quote about self care is so powerful
Self care is not about consumption.
Self care doesn’t happen in a vacuum, or at the expense of other’s self care. True self care is emobided, intentional, and loving.
True self care enables presence, and allows us to live lives of intention.
