My life is changing
Have you ever read a Course in Miracles?
A course in miracles is a spiritual self-study program and a book that was first published in 1976. It is considered by many to be a prominent work of New Age spirituality and metaphysical philosophy. It emphasizes the idea that the material world is an illusion, and true reality lies beyond it. It teaches that forgiveness and love are the keys to undoing the ego's illusions and experiencing inner peace and salvation.
I have never completed a course in miracles, but have read small sections at different points in time. While I do find some value in the text, I ultimately feel distant and overall cautious of New Age spirituality and have not engaged with commitment.
I bring it up, because lesson 1 of "A Course in Miracles" introduces the foundational concept that "Nothing I see in this room (on this street, from this window, in this place) means anything."
A past mentor told me that this lesson is meant to open us to allowing our reality to dissolve and reform around us, and this made sense to me.
Supposedly, the less attached we are, the easier our world can shift and blossom.
If you have ever gone through sudden and significant change, you have watched your reality significantly transform
For better or worse, we all go through moments where reality transforms around us, and we awaken into new lives.
Doing this with intention can be powerful, but whether we intend it or not, change is an inevitable aspect of life.
Ideally, things get better for us over time. Our reality transforms, bringing us closer to our visions of success and happiness.
What is more likely is that our lives change in ways we don’t expect, and it is difficult to compare. Our dreams come true, only for us to realize we want something more or different.
I have found that taking baby steps toward change allows us to build transformative momentum over time. This can create more alignment when big changes finally come to fruition.
But no matter how slowly you go, you eventually have to take a leap of faith.
While we may resist change, the newness is irresistible
As many of you know, I launched my first group program, New Cycles: A course for Self-Accountability, earlier this month. Tomorrow is our third class.
My work is the culmination of years of training, education, self-reflection, and yearning. I have always known that I am meant to do this work, but for years I struggled with my messaging.
I often felt myself getting lost in the sauce of my expansive ideas, searching for the core of my work. What helped me was coaching, self-observation, and trial and error.
I came to realize that while there is so much work I can do, it’s about committing to the work I am most passionate about.
In New Cycles, I am able to luxuriate at the intersection of healing trauma and embracing power.
When we commit to sitting in discomfort and reflecting on our patterns, we often find ourselves in the roots of our family tree, tracing the emotional and spiritual wounds created by displacement, war, and violence.
When we are open to doing things differently and meeting our resistance with kindness, we create the possibility for intentional transformation.
By shifting our smallest automatic thoughts and actions, we are baby-stepping toward new experiences.
If you have ever been stuck in a cycle or a pattern of dysfunction that is older than you, then I am sure that you can appreciate how exciting it is to consider experiencing a variation from the pattern.
We will be having our third class this week. I am so lucky that the people who said yes to this cohort have shown up with dedication. There have only been two classes, but each one has been transformational, unexpected, and beautifully open hearted.
Everyone in the container has shown up with dedication and care, and I can feel our collective power pulsing in the air.
It feels like a new beginning.
Fall is about letting go
I love this time of year. In Chinese five elements, we entering the season of metal.
This season is associated with refinement, boundaries, and pulling energy back towards oneself.
If you think of a gourd left on the vine, the flesh of the plant will shrivel, and the seed and the skin will grow thicker. Similarly, during this time, we are meant to release some of the obligations and practices that we took on over the year.
We are preparing for the stillness and much-needed reset of winter, the season of death.
As we enter this season of metal, what are you letting go of?
